Hows this possible? Those legs are way bigger than her torso+head.
Legs should be the half of the body.

What is /ALT/?
If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.
>Rules & Guidelines
(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly I encourage you to keep discussion at a civil level, but you're more than welcome to share your opinions.
>I came for anime. Why does the image OP say cartoons general?
To distinguish from the anime study thread (janitor supported). Please post your studies there and personal work goes here.

Personally, I'm not going to waste time and money on oils or watercolors just so I can use my wacom tablet. You can do digital without traditional just fine.

How do you study composition? Do you copy comic frames, movie stills, illustrations, masters? What books did you read for the theory behind it?
We post our work and /ic/ tells us how much its worth as a commission.
Why do people call Miura a good artist?
Today I spent five HUNDRED dollars on oil paint stuff. However, I've spent hours online trying to find lessons and tutorials for beginners, and I find absolutely no good videos for helping teach noobies how to begin. Where the hell do I start? I have absolutely no idea of what to even begin with other than to gesso my canvas.

**If you make good copies of anime *properly*, you will be able to draw good anime. If you make bad copies of anime or bad anime styled drawings from photos, you will get better at drawing bad anime. Please think carefully about how you are studying.**
This is the thread for:
1. Posting your anime studies:
>Copy exactly but don’t do it aimlessly. Integrate drawing concepts (construction, color theory, tracing, etc.) into your studies in order to pull information from the reference (anime art, figurines, tutorials) that you can later use for your original work.
>Do a single study multiple times to ensure you address all of your mistakes and memorize the correct process in your head. Attempt drawing it from memory as well.
>You will only be able to effectively deviate from your reference after doing exact copy studies accurately and consistently.
2. General anime style discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.
**Keep most of your personal works for /alt/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

How do I "study" another artist? What the heck does that even mean?
Yeah I have a folder with my favorite artwork of that artist, now what.
I'm interested in learning to tattoo. Has anyone here taught themselves? I don't have time to do an apprenticeship. Where do you start and what do you practice on?

This is a thread for redrawing generic art. Give fellow ic artists some pointers to make their art style more unique and better all around.
Looking for an inker for tomorrow to ink some comic pages for me. They are a little rough and loose but they’re pretty simple, not very many backgrounds.
I mostly just need someone to trace over my sketches in a photoshop file.
If interested please email me at [email protected] or reply in the thread with your contact info.
Pay rate is 10 USD per page. Sorry it’s all I got, and like I said they’re pretty simple, plus I might ask you to leave some stuff out that I need to redraw. Maximum amount would be 15 pages, probably at least 8 pages that I need right now.
Very quick turn around time, I basically need you to email me them page by page. My deadline is Monday morning, but I need them a little sooner.
Example page in thumbnail.
Or the best I'm aware of
It's called pin 2d. It's biggest drawback is that it's in chinese. But it has 3 english playlists.

... just so you end up drawing loomis anyway. Just like IC said.
>no matter how much you practice most people will think the "ultra-realistic" grayscale photo style looks more impressive
How do you deal with this feel
meanwhile in bizzaro /ic/
What do you think of my art?
What art style triggers you the most?
For me, it's whatever the fuck this is supposed to be. It's lazy as shit and doesn't even attempted to put the triangles in the right place to create the illusion of a 3D model
So i did this pretty rough yet might clean it up later
I fucking hate these faggot ass rich kids who can afford good art classes and art school and are good.
I hate them so much it's helping motivate me to get better.
Are there any resources out there that explain the logic of character design? I'm not looking for an entire course so much as just a list of fundamental concepts to keep in mind while designing a character. Or a logical order of how to think when designing said character; a process or even just a book to reference.
I'm a total beginner. Here I have my most recent attempt. She's supposed to be a slutty monk warrior widow. I'm not really happy with the design in the end because the silhouette is bland and i feel like she just lacks personality overall.
Please help me with my art project, 4chan. I need to come up with 4 intermediate stages of this rocking chair morphing into this fox. Obviously, these do not exist in nature, and I suck enough at art as it is. Please help, I beg of you.
At first I didn't like loomis much, because I honestly had a hard time understanding him. Yes I'm a brainlet in art so sue me.
But everywhere I looked for info to learn few could match Loomis(vilppu, robertson and hampton).
It was either a scam, or overpriced garbage, a waste of money and time. Or the few goods ones like watts atelier were just reselling loomis.
Even those like Proko that "explain" loomis just overcomplicate the hell out of his teachins. Ex compare his manequin vs Proko.
What opened my eyes was how indeed the japanese are just using your stuff and adapting it to anime.
Krens Cushart, in particular, opened my eyes. he heavily references Loomis in his lessons.
I'm going to study Loomis more seriously. Loomis you were always there giving the answers for free... and I didn't listen.
But from now on I will.
I mean they're just shittier Riley rhythms.
This technique doesn't take into account 3d shapes at all. And it only really helps if you're already familiar with muscles and 3d shapes.
...But at that point, why bother?
inspirational drawing music or music you draw to.. i think this is a song a lot of people on /ic/ can relate with
>How I learned to draw realistic portraits in only 30 days
I'll just leave this here
by the way, this will sell within a couple hours as it does every month
WHAT THE HELL. Why are my oil paints so FUCKING THICC? I put refined linseed oil in my paints and they are still fucking thick and my brushes get all fucked any tips anons?
Anyone have a place to go to find good examples of feet? Stylized and real.
am I the only one here that thinks grinding fundies/practicing is actually kind of fun? I find it kind of comforting to practice drawing figures and boxes but get anxious when starting on something original because I feel there’s more pressure. but when I go over loomis it’s kind of weirdly fun because I feel like I’m understanding something more each time but I don’t have to commit to finishing a piece. anyone else in the same boat?
I usually lurk on other shit, but I've started to draw as a way to supplement my story creativity which runs into the pitfall of my basic bitch vocabulary. Should I get into ic? and wtf do all your little codes mean to this newfag?
It's possible to do something like photobashing but in music?
This one was done in 2018. The next one was done in 2007. They are pretty much 10+ years apart and signify the change in art style from Blizzard.
You DO follow the 7 commandments of digital painting, right?
I was thinking about saving up and going to Watts Atelier but does Jeff teach black people? I'd be hesitant about going if that were the case
Can any of you draw in a style similar to Tokyo ghoul?
/ic/ recomend me a good begginers program to draw. is krita good?
I happen to see this and I wondered was it a good thing? Is sameface for the sake of culture integrate a good thing or is being diverse with art more interesting and appealing?
What can I do to improve at this point?
I'm mostly self-taught, I watch tutorials for minor things once in a while (eG for coloring of hair on pic related)
My drawings are always lacking something that makes them look good. I'm pretty much satisfied with the style I developed, but my coloring and linework isn't pleasant to look at. Any tips or suggestions?
Sorry for shitty resolution, I'm on the go and this is the only thing I have available from my most recent work
Anyone got any useful tips, tutorials or sources on edges?
I'm having some real trouble wrapping my head around the way they work, when to use which kind and how to pull them off with pencil on paper. Maybe my method is all wrong. Maybe it stems from a lack of some more fundamental value knowledge. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
Post cool pen and ink works.
How is a total beginner supposed to get even 1% of the mileage Loomis finds here? Why did he choose examples impossible to replicate? Even in his first potato lump "still hope" example, he turns into the best head of the bunch. That's just discouraging.

I want to start producing T-Shirts of various works of mine, especially this one here as the example. I would like to find a web based company that can produce, package and mail out them to whoever orders one. I am okay with the company taking the lion's share of the profits, because what little time I have should be devoted to generating more imagry for more T-Shirts. Can anyone recommend a company like this? They have to be capable of getting pic related on a shirt with proper scale and definition.

You only get better when you're sleeping, so sleep well.
>A growing literature in recent years argues that sleep plays a crucial role in learning and memory consolidation (for reviews, see Smith 1995; Stickgold et al. 2001; Walker 2004). Perhaps the most consistent evidence has been for sleep's role in the development of procedural skill memory.
Practice well and then sleep. Consistency is extremely important, since you sleep everyday. It's better to practice 1 hour everyday for a week than to practice 7 hours one day of the week. Grind your fundies to the point of diminishing returns in terms of focus and energy and then sleep. Repeat it again the next day. Don't burn out. CONSISTENCY and SLEEP are EXTREMELY important.
Any tips on drawing with a mouse? I can't afford a drawing tablet or whatever, also how do i make lines not come out all fuzzy in photoshop?

This may be a bit off topic for the board, but it's still related to a drawing program (and /g/ would call it off topic, too.)
Does anyone here use Krita for drawing? If so, have you ever experienced this pure bullshit I'm experiencing right now?
I'd love to get into Krita, but this happening on a 144hz monitor (or anything really, its so fucking jaggy) is reallllllly making me want to not use it.

don't grind, just draw what you like

Tangential to /ic/ but still counts, right?
I periodically prune all (few) small talk tweets and I go long periods just posting art and only talking about art. Sometimes an artist I follow says something and I leave a brief comment or relevant joke but in most cases they don't even answer. On top of that I feel like I'm being unprofessional just by doing this kind of stuff and I feel bad about it. Should I just not bother with conversation? I always reply to my followers and leave those tweets alone when I prune.

HOW THE FUCK DO I COME UP WITH AN ARTIST NAME
how do you guys gain the motivation to draw?
Anyone using a lesser-known website in order to hide their powerlevels?
I'm talking places like Weasyl, Wysp, Artrift and Epilogue. Places that are out of the way, but have enough of a userbase that they won't just vanish off the face of the Earth. Where you can cultivate your skills and become a pleasant treasure trove for anyone that happens to stumble across your work.
I spam facebook for hours advertising, hoping to get a commission and then these artists are getting commissions without advertising anywhere.
How the fuck does that work?
How the fuck do you get commisions?
Why has instagram made promoting so hard?
Does the way the fabric hugs the ass look off to anyone else? The more I look at it the stranger it gets
this has been propably discussed multiple times. But what is the best Art forum these days, or community. Where you can maintain example a sketchbook get feedback, discuss, make art friends etc. Everything feels so temporal.
Any one else stuck in the cycle of shifting through mediums and styles without producing anything worth while?
Why is so hard drawing on it?

REMEMBER, if you've just started out you work will not be good, it doesn't need to be, just get in to the swing of actually drawing, and learning how to study. Most of all, enjoy it.

Just saw this one about the mangaka Shinichi Sakamoto.
I feel like whenever I hear the story and passion of another artist, it just awakens an extra bit of motivation in me.
I can do pretty good pixel art, and I can make music at a relatively professional-level quality, yet the creations I’m most proud of are my pencil drawings which are comparatively shite. I don’t understand why. Is there a name for this kind of thing?

I'm wondering what could we do to know if someone's an /ic/ user on real life. Like could we share a password or a specific question if we suspect if someone is a Loomis acolyte too? It has to be somethng discrete tho so alarms don't get raised and we can save face if the person doesn't know this place. Something like:

How hard is it to get good enough to draw like this?
I'm like maybe 10 hours into drawing. I'm currently starting out with this "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" workbook that gives me a bunch of exercises to do. Right now, I'm on drawing in negative space of a sports photo.
However, my endgame is that I just want to draw anime cuties. Can I take a break from this book and go study Loomis or Vluppi or should I really finish this book to get the fundies down?
Lets get a thread going where we show something personally handbuilt/drawn and let each other know what we think. I do ceramics and wanted to share my most recent slipcast project

Aren't there any lessons that explain Loomis methods in video form?
Like, taking the concepts from his books and turning them into videos for easier understanding.
Loomis doesn't explain really well what he does in his books.
Where are you even supposed to find references for such teeny bodies?
which software are you using to create art?
>Only very few art schools are worth the money it in the sense they actually teach you how to draw and paint. Watts atelier, and calarts for example. Your art school is most likely shit, specially if it isn't in a first world country.
>Most art schools will just teach you useless shit like philosophy or feelings, when you just want to draw something cool. They will even glorify some modern art bullshit because "muh expression".
>A lot of people graduate from art school and aren't even /begs level. I've seen it myself, and yes, it's as sad as it sounds. It gets worse. You will be thousands of dollars in debts.
>Meanwhile a kid that draws anime for fun will draw 10 times better than you, and ironically he will have more money than you.
>And that's because you can learn most of art cheaper and free online.
>If you pay watts atelier online or NMA AND you pay extra for critiques by their professionals, you will be learning more than you will save money.
>Unlike other carers like medicine, Employers don't give a shit about your diploma. They will just see your portfolio and if you suck, you're fucked. They will even hire a self taught guy over you.

>Any loser can create a masterpiece if given a lifetime to do so. In this world what makes you truly good is how fast you can produce good results.
So what's the ideal time I should be spending on a drawing? How much does it take you? I'm guessing 2 to 6 hours is ideal and you could do more than one drawing that day depending on how complex it is. But spending days on a piece makes me feel incompetent.
Any thoughts on my drawing? Drawn with a mouse in M.S. Paint.
Friend’s art. What do you guys think of it?
Can I get some feedback? I'm trying to go for the child-like style without lineart but I don't know how it works. I've been trying to make a webcomic with this style. Any feedback at all is appreciated greatly.
