>What literature should I read to get into graphic design?
The sidebar on the /gd/ wiki has plenty of book reccomendations.
>What programs do I need to get started?
>Which program is the best for X?
It's usually subjective if you pick a program in each of the right categories above. Use vector programs if your making a logo/icon/illustraton, use bitmap programs if you're messing with a photo or stock image. Gimp, Inkskape, and Blender are free alternatives and have the same function as the paid programs but the paid programs tend to be used more in a professional enviroment.

Does anybody have a torrent for Piranesi for Windows?
What are you working on, anon ?
hey /gd/, this isn't a technical question, i'm just curious what you all do when you get writer's block / mental block.
in december i started working on a short artbook / zine project, and now i'm like 60% done with it but can't seem to bring myself to finish it. I try working on it every day but can only last 20 minutes or so before i get mad because i can't think of anything original so i go play video games or watch a movie instead.
is there anything you guys do to help with this? I know in other facets of my life i have ways of mentally tricking myself into doing things i don't want to do. for example if my room / desk is really messy i'll watch youtube videos about cool tech / PC setups or check out /g/'s /battlestations/ threads and that will sort of get me inspired to clean up my own setup. but when it comes to designing, i can't seem to get myself out of this. tips? experiences? whatever you have to share. thanks

How hard is it to learn Illustrator if you've only used Photoshop?
I hate stock images like these. They are bloated with nonsense.
Hey, I'm at university and I'm really low on funds so I'm trying to put more effort into my TeePublic page, because I've been making $50-$100 a month pretty easy with some shit designs and barely adding to it.
So what do you guys think of my newest design?

I have a few extracts from an old issue of Imagebank - Ideas (number 17, year 1995, to be precise), and it has plenty of 'vaporwave-esque' pics.
I did scan some of its pages, so I would like to share them with all of you. Unfortunately, I did not scan all of the book, so please do not ask for the remaining pages.
Here are the specs :
- 36 scanned pages in total
- .tif format
- 600 dpi

Help appreciated, thanks
I'm a graphic design student and my professor just gave us a homework, she told us to design an App and gave us a "topic". In my case it is art, I have to design an application that "can solve a need about art". Some needs that you have observed?

On average, how much time does it take for a professional designer to create a logo? Is making logos quick money or not?
I imagine some detail may need to be removed (e.g. MAGA) and some lines may need to be added (around ear/chin).
Will one of you please help me?
There's probably a really simple answer for this, but how would I repeat this effect with another image?
Can anyone explain why the recommended dimensions for a company banner on linkedin is 1536x768, but when looking at most other companies and inspecting the element it is (variable)x220? In my head I am designing around a height of 220 px but I am being asked for 1536x768 dimensions. I dont have the keys to the account so I cant test anything.
my only idea is to make the image 768 but design at 220 and just leave transparency for the rest of the file.
Post the best/most aesthetically pleasing flags. Old thread reached the image limit.
My contribution would be the Austrian flag, very striking and has an amazing legend.
>According to legend, the flag was invented by Duke Leopold V of Austria as a consequence of his fighting during the Siege of Acre. After a fierce battle, his white surcoat was completely drenched in blood. When he removed his belt, the cloth beneath remained unstained, revealing the combination of red-white-red. So taken was he by this singular sight that he adopted the colors and scheme as his banner
I just got one of those turboultrawide monitors really cheap and I love it. I was able to find most of my textbooks online this semester by simpling googling the name of the book and putting pdf after it. So now I am able to read the book and have a second window open for notes with the huge monitor, but I don't like using the mouse to take try and write with. I can always use pen and paper, but I was wondering if I should get one of these things.
How easy is it to be precise with these things? If I'm writing equations with subscripts is it going to be hard to get the little subscript to look well written? Can they be used with software like OneNote? Is the input kind of laggy?
How do I land freelancing gigs online. I wasted three years of my life studying graphic design only to realise I don't like it that much and I am now starting uni again for something else. How do I monetize my useless skills as Side hustle? My main focuses are CI, Editorial and motion design. I have no real portfolio just some half-assed uni project that I could disguise as real work.
Areb sites like upwork and freelancer viable or has pajeet ruined that too? Thanks I guess
What do we think about the new Slack logo and rebrand?
Seems to have ignored everything that made it unique and replaced it with generic, dated, messenger app branding. Forgettable and lazy.
Anyone wanna help a poor designer out? I need page 62 of this book. (Editorial Design: Digital & Print by Cath Caldwell) Or if you know more of the three types of cover design, abstract, figurative and typographical?

Looking for a new job as a graphic designer (I have a few set designs/ products under my belt), I can make 3D characters, on the side too. Looking to move out of the USA to a benevolent country in Europe for a living wage.
I'd like to concentrate my search in just 3 countries. So my question to all the designers here is: which are your top 3 picks. Which ones do you think would appreciate our craft with their wallets.
I make some shit that designers often buy, it all was within local community, but now i want to move a little bit forward. Right now im trying to figure out what socials are most valuable, so i have a very simple question for you, fellow designers.
Do you still use facebook and if you do, how often?

Also interested in anything "theory/principles of 3D design" related if it's applicable.

I need help for something that might be trivial for anons in this board but I'm not quite sure how to do it.
What's a good program that allows you to do a circular gauge? All I need is to build a circular scale with transversal lines from x to x distance units so I can start editing the rest but I don't think office allows for this and excel graphics are absolutely atrocious for the purpose.
The idea is to build a series of frames for different gauges to apply in a Java Swing application. What do you recommend?
What do you think?
The print is made for a shirt that will drop soon
What do you guys think about this?
I'm fairly new to Photoshop and I have no professional experience with anything related to graphic design so my work looks like shit. despite this I wanted to make a 80's esque syfi action anime movie cover. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.(note: I know the Japanese in the image does not correlate with whats on screen but I wanted a retro Japanese neon city vibe so I just found random images with text on them. I also used a lot of artwork from a lot of games and artist so if art is inconsistent then that is why.)

How do you quickly add jpeg artifacts to images? Is such a thing possible without saving images over and over again? Is there a tool for this?

Here’s the quick rundown
The business is a 40 year old manufacturer of steel building framing, the sort of stuff that would appeal to rough a tradesman type of person that uses their hands more than their brain. The logo is all caps and LOUD looking.
A few years ago, they started selling a series of high quality metal door frames which are aimed at high tier architects. They gave this product family it’s own logo that is more elegant and modern.
The problem: Wheh the business goes to trade shows they show the branding of both the main business and the door frame product line and the 2 brands look completely different to the degree that the salesmen regulars get asked what is the connection between these two very different looking logos and branding. The main business colour is blue, the door frane’s brand is red. It’s the same company and the same staff selling the product but customers get confused all the time.
Imagine if a van making company decided to suddenly sell a luxury sports car. It’s very unclear which brand is which
Got a job, first one. Simple vector stuff. Character design. Looking for advice, how much money should I charge? Also, per drawing or per hour?
For a project (book cover) I have to put content inside of a frame like this.
help with gimp 2.10.6
With an older version of gimp i had a macro set up to scale to a specific height by pressing tab until it reached the height box on the dialog.
with this version of gimp there seems to be no way to highlight anything in the scale dialog without clicking on it.
there is a detach dialog from canvas button that brings it back to the way it used to be, is there a way to make that the default?
or any other solution to my problem?

I want to research this modern dadaist-like design more.
Could you guys give me some examples of how graphic designers impact Editorial fields?
I got an assigment about just that and i got zero leads about it.
I would really, really appreciate if you guys had any forms in which a Graphic Designer could influence the editorial process of a magazine or something.
Or am i just overcomplicating things and is just stuff like"Graphic designers make the product interesting to the customer"?
I want to create something similar to pic related, but I have no idea how to make it phase and distort.
anyone know how i can get the psd file of this without paying for the subscription?

On a 20 Gb MKV file of a Transformers movie, with overal just truly excellent audio and visuals both, an almost flawless rip and nonetheless in between there are frames or shots (seconds) that look like pic. gritty and flawed,
How is this possible? Is there a certain range of color combination or complexity (like the sand blowing by) that makes the encoding of this frame SIgnificantly less adequate than 99.99% of the rest of the movie>?
/gd/ I'm a 0/10 designer so I know my opinion is wrong, but I want to know why. To me the subway color scheme looks shit, it reminds me of a gardening brand like it is for plant food or something. That, or a cleaning product. The colors, shapes, layout remind me of anything but food. Why am I wrong?
Can you please tell me the name of this font?
How would you call this style?
Is there some kind of comprehensive resource on the origins of common design tropes, e.g. the use pastel colors and squiggly lines in the 90s, the use of blur and transparency in UIs since the late 2000s etc?
I'm interested in the history of stuff like that but can't find any in-depth resources explaining the origins and influences. Does anyone here know some?
How to learn Photoshop? I'm a programmer and I merely want to know how to use it for making UIs and maybe some graphic designing related to what I program, but it's seems like such a vast tool and I don't even know where to start. Sure I could have looked up some randos tutorial, but I'm not sure if I'm going to learn anything useful specifically for what I want to use the software for.
Back then I usually made things with Paint.NET as a reference
5 years or so ago we went from really detailed 3D icons to completely flat design for basically every OS in existence.
We've gotten used to seeing it everywhere at this point, I don't know how it could be improved for people -or normalfags rather- living in modern times. Is it here to stay forever? What's next for UI design?

Can someone please help me out and tell me what this font is.
What do you do when a client tries to stiff you on paying for work? I've got a contract, signed by both parties and he's outright refusing to pay me for my work.
Here's the story.
I was approached by some dude who had a clothing startup with him and a few of his friends. They asked me to design their launch piece (a jacket), and said they'd pay me a down payment for my work. While also stating that if I did further designs with them, I'd get paid via net profits per month. I said sure, figuring I'd have another source of passive income, and some cash in my pocket for the initial job. Before I started though, I asked that we both work out a contract, and we signed. The area detailing payment is as follows:
4. Design-Partner Agreement
It is understood and agreed that the designer will be subject to a payment of 200$ [CAD] and that the CEO agrees to give 10% of the net profit of sales to such designer. All of these are subject to periodical review
I was a bit put off by the fact that I was getting paid $200 CAD (Canadian) instead of USD, but I figured I'd cut them some slack since they were starting up and getting shit together. In any case, I finished my end of the deal, and when asked for payment he said "You agreed that you would get paid the $200 from the profits of the jacket". First off, I didn't, but as long as I got paid it didn't really matter much. Eventually the time came where the jackets were done, but I never got any emails or anything. Sent an email asking what was up, and apparently there was some shit wrong with them, the whole thing fell through and now the business is dismantled. "But we'll try to get you your money."
